Telogen effluvium is a temporary hair loss condition that occurs as a result of a change in the hair growth cycle. It can be triggered by physical stress, such as surgery or illness, or emotional stress.

Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by tight hairstyles, such as braids, cornrows, and tight ponytails, that pull on the hair and damage the hair follicles.

Treatments for hair loss vary depending on the cause. Minoxidil and finasteride are medications that can be used to treat androgenetic alopecia. Corticosteroids, anthralin, and topical or injectable immunotherapy can be used to treat alopecia areata. Telogen effluvium often resolves on its own without treatment. Traction alopecia can be prevented by avoiding tight hairstyles and protecting the hair from damage.

In some cases, hair loss may be permanent and cannot be treated. In these cases, wigs, hairpieces, and hair transplants can be used to restore the appearance of hair.
